Introduction to dyeing with indigo and other dyes.

In-person course 10/19/2024 in Santa María de las Lomas (Cáceres, Spain).
This course is dedicated to people who want to get started in the world of indigo, learning extraction and dyeing techniques in person.
It is organized in a single session (morning and afternoon) during which practical demonstrations of color extraction processes will be given and indigo dyeing processes on different fibers will be developed.
The main objective is to promote and publicize natural dyeing techniques as alternatives to current production processes, which involve the use of synthetic dyes and chemical products.
* PRESENTATION OF TINTOREMUS:
Brief presentation of the project.
* THEORETICAL PART:
Brief history of natural dyes.
Description of the main dyeing plants used in ancient times and examples of their use in textile dyeing and painting.
* PRACTICAL PART, INDIGO DYEING:
Pigment extraction. Explanation of the Tintoremus production process in Santa Maria de las Lomas (visit to the fields and facility).
Preparation of a vat of natural indigo dye
Preparation of the fabrics and explanation of the dyeing process
Washing and final care.
In the practical sessions of the course, the student will learn and develop natural dyeing techniques on their own under the supervision of our dyers.
At the end of the course each student will be able to perform basic tinctures.
